24-year-old Demetrius Johnson, who was known to as “Deemo,” saved the life of his girlfriend's cousin when she was being stabbed by her former husband.

Demetrius was spending time with his girlfriend Jennifer Battisti, at her cousin's house when her former husband came in and began arguing about using the car.

The fight between 52-year-old Vincent Johnson and his former wife Misty Phillips, became violent.

When Demetrius saw his girlfriend’s cousin being stabbed, he immediately intervened. He got in front of the woman to stop the attack.

The woman had already been stabbed in the head, face and back, before she was saved by Demetrius who was stabbed instead of her.

“Misty lost a few of her fingers and severed tendons among other injuries,” Battisti said. She is being treated at a hospital.

Battisti hopes that her cousin recovers. “I hope I don't lose my cousin after Demetrius stepped in to saved her life. I feel horrible that he had to lose his,” Battisti said.

Vincent, who has a criminal history, was charged with four counts, including first-degree murder and assault with intent to murder.

Phillips’ family donated money On Go Fund Me for the funeral costs of Demetrius. They also took the time to write about their appreciation for the actions of Demetrius.

Frederick Battisti wrote: “I'm so sorry for your loss and at the same time thankful for saving my sister's life. May he rest in peace.”

Amber Broadwater wrote: “My husband and I are praying for your family. He is a true Hero. I will forever be grateful he lost his life to save my cousin Misty's life. We will keep praying for your family. I didn't know him personally, but if my cousin Jennifer was with him, I’m sure he was an amazing man. God Bless you all. God Rest his soul.”
