(Scroll down for video) Police have launched an investigation after a video that was uploaded to YouTube, showed the mayor of Dover in the United Kingdom, snoring suspicious white powder inside a toilet.

54-year-old Neil Rix is seen getting into a toilet with another man before holding a small bag containing a white powder that looked like cocaine.

He then snorted some of the powder with a 20 pound note. Rix claimed that he was blackmailed. He rejected calls to resign as mayor, saying that he did not know what the white powder was and it could have been sherbet.

Rix admitted that he went into the bathroom with another man and snorted the white powder. He said that he will get over it with the support of his family and friends.

Rix told police that people were putting things in his drink before going into the toilet.

The mayor added that he was totally against using drugs and the white powder he snorted could have just been sherbet for all he knows.

He said that police were currently investigating the blackmail claim.

Kent police confirmed that they have reviewed the video and are investigating the white powder as well as the blackmail claim.

The Dover Town Council is supporting the mayor's decision not to resign, saying that the video does not prove that Rix snorted cocaine.
