(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested after police discovered marijuana plants in his house following a fire, according to police in the United Kingdom.

Manchester police said that the 43-year-old man, who was not identified, has been arrested after his house that contained marijuana plants went up in smoke, causing children in the neighborhood to get sick.

According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded on Tuesday around 7:30 p.m. on Vicarage Close.

Neighbors told investigators that they did not know there was marijuana plants in the home until several children vomited in the street.

The smoke had a very pungent smell, and people said that they felt the marijuana in the air. Firefighters who arrived at the scene, rescued a dog that was dangling from a window, trying to escape from the fire.

The owner of the house was not home at the time of the blaze.

When he came home, he was arrested by police for possession of marijuana. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The house was completely destroyed, and the roof was left with a large hole.

A neighboring home also suffered a lot of damages.
