A woman was arrested on a charge of assault after allegedly pulling a long knife on her grandmother for praying too loudly at home, according to police in Florida.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said that they have arrested 28-year-old Sherice Gordon, after being accused of threatening 70-year-old Lynn Thompson, placing her in fear for her life.

In court, Gordon pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill. She was booked into jail, and her bail was set at $15,000.

According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon, at the grandmother’s home located in the 2600 block of Flagler Avenue.

Gordon asked Thompson and her cousin, 33-year-old Kerisha Rankine, to be quiet as they were praying in the prayer room.

When the two continued to shout, Gordon stormed into the room with a large knife and threatened to kill her grandmother.

Gordon told police officers who arrived at the scene that she never pulled a knife, and claimed that her grandmother attacked her for slamming the door.

However, witnesses at the scene told officers that Gordon did threaten her grandmother with a knife. The grandmother asked police not to arrest Gordon, but her request was denied.
