A prison inmate was arrested on a charge of assault after allegedly pouring hot coffee on his cellmate because he was annoyed by his young age, according to police in Florida.
Vero Beach police have arrested 53-year-old Andrew Coffee, after being accused of burning 21-year-old Chauncey Jones.
In court, Coffee pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He is being held at the Vero Beach jail, awaiting trial for attempted murder in connection with the shooting of police officer Christopher Lester.
According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded on Monday afternoon. Coffee got annoyed that Jones, who is much younger than him, arrived in the jail.
During an argument, Coffee took hot coffee and poured it on Jones. Jones also claimed that Coffee punched him in the face.
Coffee admitted to pouring hot coffee on Jones, saying that this was much better than a beating, but he denied punching the victim.
