Police in Florida, have confirmed that two-time All Star, Jose Fernandez, 24, was killed along with two of his friends in a horrific boating accident.
This shocking news comes just five days after Fernandez posted a photo to Instagram, along with an announcement that he is going to be a father.
Police said that Fernandez was a passenger in a 32-foot boat when it crashed into a rock jetty at South Pointe Park Pier.
The Miami-Dade Fire Department was called at about 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, on reports that a boat overturned. After a search, they found the bodies of three males, one of which was confirmed to be Fernandez.
The Miami-Dade police and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) are investigating the incident.
“It appears that speed was involved due to the impact and the severity of it,” Lorenzo Veloz of the FWC said.
