Man beats and pulls out teeth of girlfriend's 4-year-old son

(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested on a charge of assault after being accused of beating his girlfriend's son, according to police in Pennsylvania.

Now, 28-year-old Nicholas Kernechel of East Greenville, has been sentenced to serve up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to assault, endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another person and false reporting.

According to the police investigation, the mother of the 4-year- old boy left the child in the care of her boyfriend for a night as she went out to party with her girlfriends.

After returning the next morning, the woman found her son asleep on the floor of his room. His face was beaten, he had swollen lips and three missing teeth in the mouth.

She and the child went to the hospital, where doctors confirmed the child's teeth have been removed. Kernechel claimed that he accidentally dropped the child and he hit a nightstand.

Doctors noticed other signs of abuse, including bruises. In court, Kernechel blamed his heroin addiction for his behavior.
