(Scroll down for video) A government agency has launched an investigation after several women reported that their Samsung washing machines exploded.

Samsung said that they are in active discussions with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to address potential safety issues related to certain top-load washing machines manufactured up until several months ago.

In rare cases, affected units may experience abnormal vibrations that could pose a risk of personal injury or property damage when washing bedding, bulky or water-resistant items.

Samsung is recommending that consumers with affected models use the lower speed delicate cycle when washing bedding, bulky or water-resistant materials.

There have been no reported incidents when using this lower speed cycle.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is actively and cooperatively working with Samsung to address safety issues related to certain top-load washing machines.

“CPSC is advising consumers to only use the delicate cycle when washing bedding, water-resistant and bulky items. The lower spin speed in the delicate cycle lessens the risk of impact injuries or property damage due to the washing machine becoming dislodged,” the agency said.

32-year-old Melissa Thaxton of Dallas, Georgia, said that one morning, she was standing next to the machine when it exploded.

The cables, nuts and cover were lying on the ground. Thaxton’s 4-year-old son Lucas, was right next to the machine.

In a similar case in Holly Springs, North Carolina, Sarah Price said that her Samsung top loading washing machine flew apart as well.
