(Scroll down for video) Police launched an investigation after parents caused the death of their teenage daughter by forcing her to fast, according to police in India.
Secunderabad police said that the 13-year-old girl identified as Aradhana, died of malnutrition after her parents forced her to fast for 68 days.
The girl died in a hospital on Friday.
The parents said that they forced their daughter to fast after getting advice from a priest to help their failing jewelry business.
The priest told the parents that if their daughter would fast for four months, their failing jewelry business will turn around and be profitable.
Lakshmichand and Manisha Samdariya forced Aradhana to fast, but after 68 days, she collapsed. She was rushed to a hospital, where she died.
Police have charged the parents with homicide.
