Police who watch woman digging up backyard to bury ashes find $20,000

Police watched as a woman was digging up her backyard and they found $20,000 in cash.

Police in Florida, arrested a mother of four children after finding the money.

Boynton Beach police arrived at the home of Doraisy Martinez, 39, and spotted her digging up her backyard.

When asked what she was doing, Martinez, who is Christian, said she was “digging a hole to bury an urn, in accordance with her religious beliefs.”

Officers then took the shovel and continued digging until they found the $20,000.

Authorities said that police showed up at the home two days after Martinez’s long-time boyfriend, 41-year-old Osvaldo Rizo Santana, was arrested for selling drugs.

He was caught selling more than 4 pounds of cocaine, police said. While he was in jail, investigators intercepted jailhouse phone calls between Santana and Martinez.

Santana told Martinez “to dig near a statue of a saint” in their backyard.

Acting on the tip, police received a search warrant for the property. When they arrived, officer found Martinez digging at the exact place that Santana instructed her to search.

According to court records, officers found the $20,000 buried in the backyard.

Martinez was arrested on charges of attempting to remove property to prevent seizure and making a false statement.

The boyfriend pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to distribute it. He was sentenced to three years in federal prison followed by 4 years of supervised release.
