A teenager in New Jersey, was arrested after police determined that he was behind the theft of a large amount of cheese.
Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said that 18-year-old Darluis J. Ortiz of 445 E. 27th Street in Paterson, was arrested in connection to the burglary at a warehouse.
The teen’s arrest came after a two-week joint investigation by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad and the Moonachie Police Department.
Police said that the incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. Surveillance video showed a few people entering the warehouse in Moonachie after hours, and stealing pallets of Tastee Cheese brand products from a storage area within the premises.
The value of the stolen products was estimated at more than $160,000.
Authorities identified Ortiz as the person responsible for the theft. He was arrested without incident.
Ortiz was charged with one count of theft, one count of burglary, one count of conspiracy to commit burglary and possession of burglary tools.
Ortiz is being held in the Bergen County Jail. Judge Susan J. Steele set his bail at $150,000.
