Mother-in-law is killed while helping daughter-in-law who ran out of gas on highway

(Scroll down for video) A woman in Texas, was killed while helping her daughter-in-law and her grandchildren.

On Monday around 8:00 p.m., the daughter-in-law was driving along the Southwest Freeway in Houston, when she ran out of gas, police said.

The daughter-in-law had her 9-year-old son and her 15-year-old daughter in the car when she pulled over to the side of the highway.

She then called her mother-in-law, Evelyn Brown, for help. The mother-in-law placed the two children in her car and they drove to a gas station, where they filled a container with gas.

When they returned to the scene, the mother-in-law poured the gas into her daughter-in-law’s car. Suddenly, a passing car lost control and hit the family.

The 62-year-old mother-in-law was pronounced dead at the scene while her daughter-in-law and the 15-year-old girl were injured.

They were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the car, Stephen Alan Cook, 45, was charged with intoxicated manslaughter.
