Husband splits wife’s head open with can of corn beef because he was unable to open it and she did not want to help him
A husband of the United Kingdom, was jailed after hitting his wife with a can of corn beef.
61-year-old Dennis Thompson of Tyne and Wear, was sentenced to 12 months in prison for assaulting his wife with the tin can.
Prosecutor Michael Bunch told the Newcastle Crown Court, that the couple had been out drinking together, and when they returned home in the evening, Thompson wanted to eat.
Thompson took a can of corn beef and he tried to open it. He became angry and irritated when he was unable to open it.
He became even more annoyed that his girlfriend, Anna Goosen, did not step in to help him.
Goosen told police that she was sitting in the living room watching television when she heard her boyfriend of 5 years screaming in the kitchen, but she ignored him as he was drunk.
She suddenly felt something smashing into the back of her head and felt blood dripping on her neck. Thompson did not help her, instead, he went to bed.
The woman called and ambulance. She was taken to the hospital while Thompson was arrested.
Thompson pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and he apologized to Goosen, who is standing by him.
Judge Edward Bindloss said that the violence was fueled by alcohol and frustration. However, he pointed out that Thompson does not have a history of domestic violence.
