(Scroll down for video) A mother was arrested on a charge of battery after being accused of beating her two children with a coat hanger, according to police in Indiana.

Now, 30-year-old Khin Par Thaing of Indianapolis, has been sentenced to a year of probation after pleading guilty to battery in connection with the beating of her children, aged 7 and 3.

As part of the plea bargain agreement, a charge of child neglect was dropped. According to the criminal complaint, Thaing beat her 7-year-old son because he allegedly wanted to harm his 3-year-old sister.

The mother then beat the girl, and told her children to kneel and pray to God. A doctor found 36 bruises on the boy’s body and called the police.

In court, Thaing claimed that she had the right to beat her children because the Bible instructs parents to do so in order to prevent them from going to Hell.

She cited several verses of the Bible to support her claim.
