A mother was arrested after arriving to her home without her daughter and not knowing where she left the child.

Police in Lafayette, Indiana, eventually learned that she abandoned her 7-year-old daughter at a Taco Bell restaurant.

Officers who were called by Taco Bell employees to investigate the incident, went to the woman's home in the 2300 block of Iroquois Trail.

The mother eventually arrived home and appeared to be intoxicated, according to Lt. Brian Gossard of the Lafayette Police Department.

35-year-old Beth E. Helton is facing charges of neglect of a dependent and operating while intoxicated.

Helton was released from Tippecanoe County Jail, after posting $500 bond.

When asked if the child was left intentionally in the restaurant, the woman told police that she “thought the child was still at home.”

The Department of Children's Services was called to investigate the family.
