(Scroll down for video) A police officer was fired after shooting her daughter with her service weapon.
The officer of North Carolina, hosted a party at her home, where there were many children and adults.
Misty Flowers, 38, accidentally shot her 11-year-old daughter while showing off her service weapon to friends, police said.
The children were not in the room when Officer Flowers showed off her gun. When the mother accidentally pulled the trigger, the bullet went through a wall and hit her daughter in the abdomen while she was in the next room.
The girl was rushed to a hospital, where doctors were able to stabilize her. The girl underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
Flowers, who was on the police force for one year, was fired because “her actions showed gross negligence and disregard for public safety,” police said.
Under the department policy, officers are responsible to secure their weapons at home. Failure to do so can result in charges.
Authorities said that the FBI is investigating the incident. They will determine if Flowers will face any charges.
