Coronado police said that a boater witnessed the car tumble into the bay at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort early Wednesday.

The 56-year-old woman arrived at the hotel around 5:30 a.m., to begin her shift at the oceanfront hotel. Instead of hitting the brake, the woman accidentally hit the gas and tumbled into the bay.

The car was partially submerged in water. The boater, who was not identified, helped pull the woman for the car. She was not injured and refused to go to the hospital.

Divers went into the bay to check if there were other victims, but they found none. A tow truck managed to pull the car, which was severely damaged, from the water.
