Several plane passengers were arrested on a charge of assault after allegedly beating an elderly woman and slapping a flight attendant in the face, according to police in Italy.

The incident unfolded on Thursday, on a Ryanair flight from Brussels, Belgium, to Malta.

After a 10-minute brawl, the pilots decided to make an emergency landing in Pisa, Italy.

According to witnesses on the plane, four people, who looked like they were under the influence of alcohol, began hitting an elderly woman in the head because she was trying to switch seats.

Two passengers tried to intervene, but they were beaten as well. The four suspects then slapped a flight attendant across the face.

After 10 minutes of fighting, several passengers managed to tie up the suspects, and they were handed over to police after the emergency landing.
