(Scroll down for video) Parents are angry after learning that a man was able to sexually abuse a young girl in a bathroom at their children’s school.
Police in Sacramento, California, were called after a child told her mother that she was sexually abused in the bathroom.
According to police, the New Discovery Christian Church rents space from the Riverbank elementary school every Sunday, for worship services.
One Sunday, as the congregation was praying, a 4-year-old girl went to use the bathroom. A church member followed her and he sexually assaulted her, according to police.
Police arrested 39-year-old Rolis Wheeler, on charges of sexual assault on a minor and kidnapping.
Now, other parents are angry and worried because Wheeler rode the bus to school with their children every weekend.
William Mendoza, who is the leader of the church, is urging people to withhold judgment. He said that he understands the parents’ concerns, but “even our justice system says innocent until proven guilty,” Mendoza said.
Wheeler was homeless before joining the church about three years ago. He has since played a big role in organizing church events such as feeding the homeless.
