(Scroll down for video) A girl shot herself and her mother after finding a gun on a night stand.
Police in Indiana, were called to a home in the 1600 block of East 44th Street in Indianapolis, at around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The girl’s father told officers that he and his fiancee were sleeping when he woke up to the sound of a gunshot.
He saw his 4-year-old daughter with a gunshot wound to the cheeks. The same bullet that wounded the girl struck her mother in the back of the head as she slept.
The girl was taken to the Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health. She is in stable condition.
Her mother underwent surgery at IU Health Methodist Hospital, and is expected to recover. The mother was alert and conscious after the shooting.
The father could face a charge of reckless endangerment for leaving an unsecured gun within the reach of six children. So far, no arrests have been made.
