A woman was arrested for faking a violent robbery after spending her family's life savings.

The 65-year-old woman of Russia, whose name has not been released, set up the fake robbery because she was too afraid to tell her husband that she had spent all of their savings.

Police in Nizhny Tagil, were called after neighbors heard a desperate cry for help from the woman's apartment.

When officers arrived, they found her tied up, and the apartment was ransacked.

The woman told police that she opened the door for a man who she thought was delivering mail, only to find two men who were wearing masks and surgical gloves.

The woman said that they tied her up with tape, ransacked her home and escaped with the family’s life savings of $2,750.

However, police said that the woman’s story was inconsistent.

She eventually admitted to trashing her own home because she was afraid of telling her husband that she spent their entire savings.

The woman pleaded guilty to charges of making false allegations and wasting police time. She was sentenced to six month in prison, which was suspended.

It is not known how the husband reacted to his wife’s behavior.
