10-year-old boy pulls gun out of backpack and shoots his father who was driving him to school

(Scroll down for video) A young boy was detained for questioning after allegedly pulling out a gun from his backpack and shooing his father while being driven to school, according to police in Texas.

Houston police said that the 10-year-old boy, who was not identified, was sitting in the back seat of his father’s car when the shooting occurred.

The incident unfolded on Tuesday around 7:00 a.m., near the 7000 block of Bissonnet. The father was identified as 40-year-old Antonio Alvarenga.

He was driving his 10-year-old son and daughter to school when he was shot once in the back. Police detained the child and took him to the Child Assessment Center, where he is being questioned.

Alvarenga was taken to the hospital for surgery. He is said to be in stable condition.
