(Scroll down for video) A baby boy is lucky to be alive after having a coin stuck in his throat for more than a month, according to doctors in California.

Samantha Knox of Long Beach, said that her 8-month-old son was sick for 37 days, before doctors figured out that a penny was lodged in his throat.

The incident began when E.J. became sick and suffered from very high fever. Knox took him to several doctors and urgent care centers, but everyone said that he was suffering from a viral infection.

The child’s fever continued and he developed a rash on his stomach.

Last week, Knox took her child to the Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach, where doctors took an X-ray and noticed a coin in the boy’s throat.

They immediately rushed him into the operating room and removed a penny from his throat that was lodged there for 37 days.

Knox is angry that it took doctors so long to figure out that a coin was stuck in her boy’s throat. She does not know how the coin ended up in her child's throat.
