(Scroll down for video) A mother was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly choking her daughter to death in front of her son, according to police in Florida.

Oviedo police said that they have arrested 27-year-old Kristen Marie DePasquale, after being accused of using an electrical wire to hang 1-year-old Ma Rice.

In court, DePasquale pleaded not guilty to one count of first-degree murder. She was booked into the Seminole County Jail, and she is being held without bail.

During questioning, DePasquale told police that she went to take a shower and left her two children alone in the living room, where they watched television.

While she was in the shower on Thursday around 10:00 p.m., DePasquale heard her son apologizing for hurting the girl. When she went to investigate, DePasquale found Rice hanging from an electrical wire.

The coroner said that the young girl died of strangulation, and said that her injuries appeared to have been caused by an adult.
