Osaka police said that they have arrested 24-year-old Rena Suzuki and 22-year-old Yuta Oshima, after being accused of starving 1-year-old Ryusei to death.

According to the police investigation, Ryusei died as early as June of this year. An autopsy showed that the boy died of starvation.

After Ryusei’s death, the couple placed the child in a cooler in the trunk of their car. They then drove around with their dead son until this week, when the body was discovered.

Suzuki claimed that in April, she left Ryusei with her 3-year-old daughter in the car as she went shopping. When she came back, Ryusei was dead.

The child consultation center went looking for Ryusei, as neighbors raised concerns about possible abuse. When officials came to the couple's home, they were told that Ryusei was with his grandmother.

The grandmother told officials that she had not seen her grandson since March. Police then searched the couple’s home and car, where they found Ryusei’s dead body.
