Two grandmother got into a heated and violent argument during a handover of their grandchild outside a Walmart store, according to police in Texas.

Dallas police said that they have arrested 53-year-old Janice Brown, after being accused of shooting 55-year-old Carla Hawkins.

Brown has been charged with aggravated assault on a public servant in connection with the shooting on a police officer who responded to the scene.

According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded at a Walmart on Sunday night around 5:30 p.m.

Brown and Hawkins were in the parking lot of the Walmart located in the 7400 block of Samuell Boulevard, to transfer custody of their grandchild.

The women began to argue during the exchange. The argument then led to a physical altercation before Brown pulled out a gun and shot Hawkins, hitting her in the neck.

A police officer who was working off duty, responded to the parking lot. He saw Brown with a pistol in her hand. Brown then fired at the officer across the parking lot and he shot back at her.

No one was hit during the exchange of gunfire. Hawkins was taken to a nearby hospital, where she is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
