Ocala police said that they have arrested 55-year-old Michael Britton, after being accused of throwing his 5-year-old dog into oncoming traffic at least twice.

Britton has been charged with animal cruelty, assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Marion County Jail, and his bail has been set at $4,000.

According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. A couple and a 10-year-old child saw Britton tossing his dog in front of their vehicle.

The car hit the dog, and it ran back to Britton. Britton then threw the dog again into the road. Police were called and the dog was taken to a veterinarian.

The dog was treated and released. The officer who seized the dog took it home and changed its name to Buck. The dog is resting, and is said to be in good condition.

During questioning, Britton told police that someone shot the dog with an arrow. In order to end the dog’s misery, he decided to kill it by throwing it into the road in the path of oncoming traffic.

The vet found no sign of a stab wound.
