Teen records herself throwing cat off third floor balcony and uploads video to Facebook

(Scroll down for video) People called police after watching a video of a laughing teenager throwing a cat off a balcony, according to police in New Jersey.

The Newark Police Department said that they have arrested 19-year-old Tikeemah Lassiter, after being accused of recording herself throwing the cat out of a third floor balcony.

Lassiter has been charged with one count of animal cruelty.

She was booked into jail, and her bail has been set at $10,000.

The teen has also been charged with assault after being accused of assaulting a Transit officer.

According to the criminal complaint, a concerned citizen alerted Newark Police to a video on social media, showing Lassiter throwing the cat from a third-floor balcony in the 300 block of South Orange Avenue.

As part of their investigation, detectives have determined that Lassiter is a suspect in this animal cruelty incident. She had been in Newark, visiting relatives at the time of the incident.

Luckily, the cat survived the incident and is currently in the custody of the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The agency is having the animal examined by a veterinarian and will determine appropriate placement for the cat.
