A police officer has been suspended after he got drunk while on duty, placing his life and the lives of others in danger, according to police in New York.
The New York Police Department said that Officer Richard Evans, 44, has been suspended without pay after getting drunk while he was supposed to be on duty.
He was suspended after being deemed unfit for duty by a sergeant on Thursday. Evans’ drunkenness came to light after he and his partner were called to the scene of a domestic dispute.
A witness at the scene filed a complaint as Evans was drunk.
When Evans came back to the station, he was deemed unfit for duty. Evans, who has been a police officer for 15 years, was ordered to surrender his gun and badge.
He earned $126,000 last year.
