Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have worked tirelessly for many years to locate a girl, who went missing after getting off her school bus.

After a 5-year long search, Rachel Natacha Owens was finally found alive and safe.

Owens was last seen in 2011, when she got off her bus at school in North Carolina. She then got into a waiting car at the South Brunswick High School in Boiling Spring Lakes.

Owens had run away from home before, but never for very long. This time, she left a note behind, expressing her wishes to go to Mexico.

Her family asked the public for help in locating their daughter and police officered a $5,000 reward for information in her disappearance.

Two years ago, authorities received a tip that Owens might be in Ohio. This week, police located Owens in Columbus.

She went to great lengths to change her identity, including her date of birth, making it much more difficult to track her.

Investigators said that Owens, who is now 21 years old, is safe. There was no foul play in her disappearance and no charges will be pursued at this time.

Her family is very happy that she was found and they hope to rebuild a relationship with her.
