(Scroll down for video) A driver was killed after getting out of his car and attempting rob an Uber driver while his friend was waiting in his vehicle.

The Uber driver had picked up a passenger at around 5:30 a.m., and he headed to the airport. A Dodge caravan minivan cut him off near the Aventura mall, police spokesman Chris Goranitis said.

A 20-year-old man came out of the van with two guns drawn and he pointed then at the driver while demanding his possessions.

The Uber driver, who has not been identified, was scared for his life, and pulled out his own gun and fired four shots, killing the would-be-thief.

The passenger of the Dodge caravan witnessed his friend getting shot so he got into the driver’s seat and sped off.

Police later found the abandoned vehicle. Gananitis said that the Uber driver had a concealed weapons permit and that charges are unlikely.

Neither the Uber driver nor his passenger were injured.
