(Scroll down for video) Two children who were having fun playing on a frozen pond, died when the ice broke and they fell into the water below.

The boy and the girl were 12 years old when they fell through the ice in the pond in Indiana.

State conservation Officer Joe Haywood said that a woman was cooking dinner when her son, Brice Phillips, asked if they could go out and play with Paige Bailey, who she was babysitting.

About 10 minutes later, when dinner was ready at 5:30 p.m., the woman went out to call the kids. She spotted the children desperately trying to stay afloat in the freezing water.

The mother tried pull the children from the water that is located behind her home in Pike County. She called for help when she was unsuccessful in rescuing them.

The children were rushed to Memorial Hospital in Jasper, where they died.
