A teen was saved from an abusive home after begging a police officer for help at a busy airport, according to police in New York.
The Port Authority police said that they have arrested 36-year-old Aldon Hodges of Brooklyn, after being accused of beating his 13-year-old son.
Hodges has been charged with one count each of harassment, menacing, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
According to the criminal complaint, the 13-year-old boy and his father were at JFK Airport, where the child approached a police officer.
The child told the officer that his father, Hodges, had lost his temper and beat him at his home earlier in the day. The child also showed the officer injuries from past beatings.
The incident unfolded at Terminal 5 around 3:00 a.m. on Thursday. The boy was taken to the Jamaica Hospital for medical treatment.
A judge banned the father from having any contact with his son.
The boy was handed over to the custody of ACS (Administration of Child Services).
