Lincoln police said that they have arrested 41-year-old Ricardo Ruiz Jr., after being accused of using a potato peeler to stab his girlfriend at their home.

Ruiz has been charged with one count of second-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. He was booked into the Lancaster County Adult Detention Facility.

According to the criminal complaint, the incident unfolded around 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

Officers were called to the couple’s home located on the 800 block of North 30th Street, on a report that a 50-year-old woman was suffering from a stab wound.

Police officers who arrived at the scene, found that Ruiz was intoxicated. His girlfriend told officers that she and Ruiz were arguing when he grabbed a potato peeler.

At one point, Ruiz picked up the peeler and began stabbing the woman, cutting her under the eye. Police officers used a Taser to subdue and detain Ruiz.

Both were taken to a hospital for treatment.
