Police officer loses his $110,000 a year job after stealing toothbrushes and soap from Walmart

A police officer in New York, was arrested for shoplifting at Walmart.

The off-duty officer was arrested for stealing toothbrushes, soap and other cleaning products from a Walmart in Newburgh, police said.

44-year-old Shawn Carter, who lives in neighboring New Windsor, used the checkout line, and he only scanned some of the items that he took from the shelves on Friday night.

He placed $46.84 worth of the items in a bag without paying for them. The officer was accused of stealing three toothbrushes, body wash, laundry detergent and plastic bags.

Records show that Carter, who works in the Transit Bureau Special Operations department, made $112,000 with overtime in 2016.

He was suspended from his job after he was charged with petit larceny.
