A plane full of passengers from New York to France, was forced to make an emergency landing after the on board toilet became clogged.

A spokesperson for Open Skies, which is owned by British Airways, said that flight BOS-4 was diverted to Ireland, after passengers had to use the toilet, but none were available on board the aircraft.

The plane took off from JFK airport, and was scheduled to arrive in Paris around 8:00 a.m. on Monday.

The crew told the air traffic controllers at Shannon Airport, that they wanted to divert so that passengers could use the sanitary facilities there.

There were 172 passengers on board the plane.

The flight was about 500 miles from Ireland, and was 90 minutes away from its destination when the pilot made the decision to divert.

It is understood that a problem has developed with the Boeing 767 that made the toilets unusable. The flight landed shortly after 7:30 a.m., and was greeted by ground staff from the airport.

The crew had also asked the engineers to fix the plane’s toilets.

The flight then continued to Paris, and landed around 9:30 a.m.
