(Scroll down for video) A Lyft driver was arrested for stabbing a woman in the neck during a fight over the number of passengers getting into the car.
Police in Boston, Massachusetts, said that the driver got into an argument with her passenger at 967 Blue Hill Avenue.
Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney Lauren Hatch said that when the passenger told the Lyft driver she made a mistake about how many passengers would be traveling with her, the driver became upset.
The passenger called her 21-year-old sister-in-law, who lived at that address, and she came outside.
The altercation escalated, and the Lyft driver, 25-year-old Kiona Thomas, stabbed the 21-year-old woman in the neck.
Thomas then fled from the scene. Police recovered her cellphone, which fell during the altercation.
Thomas eventually turned herself in to police, and she is now facing a charge of assault with intent to murder. She is being held on $15,000 bail.
The 21-year-old woman was rushed to the Boston Medical Center at about 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, and she was stabilized. She is expected to survive.
“We are deeply troubled to hear about this report. We are available to work with law enforcement to assist in their investigation,” Lyft said in a statement.
Family of Thomas, were in court to support her. They said that she is a great aunt, a good sister and a hard working woman.
Thomas told the judge that she acted in self defense.
