Police chief of anti-drug unit caught smuggling drugs

(Scroll down for video) A police chief who headed the anti-drug unit for many years, was caught smuggling drugs, according to police in Finland.

Helsinki police said that they have arrested 59-year-old Jari Aarnio, after being accused of committing multiple drug offenses while being the head of the anti-drug unit.

Now, Aarnio has been sentenced to serve 10 years in prison after being convicted of numerous drug offenses.

According to the police investigation, while Aarnio was the head of the anti-drug unit, he arranged for the import of barrels containing hash.

Aarnio worked with a gang to import the drugs into the country.

In total, Aarnio was found guilty of 22 offenses. Aarnio worked in the anti-drug unit for 30 years. He denied all the allegations, saying that everything he did was legal and part of his police work.

In addition to the drug offenses, Aarnio was convicted of aggravated abuse of public office, aggravated fraud and aggravated acceptance of a bribe.

He was sentenced to serve an additional three years in prison for these charges.
