A young girl was rushed to a hospital and is in critical condition after being set on fire by several men who tried to gag rape her, according to police in India.

Jharkhand police said that they have arrested five people and are looking to detain two others in connection with the attempted gang rape and assault.

The suspects are facing charges of attempted murder and attempted rape.

According to the police investigation, the 10-year-old girl played outside her home on Wednesday morning, when two men tried to lure her with sweets.

When she refused, they picked her up and forcefully took her to an abandoned building. They undressed the girl and tried to rape her, but she resisted.

The girl tried to escape, but the men caught her. The men poured gasoline on the girl and set her on fire. They then threw her into a well.

A passerby heard the girl cry and pulled her out of the well. She was taken to the Tata Main Hospital, where she is said to be in critical condition.
