A teenager managed to steal a police car and take it on a joyride for many hours despite being handcuffed and drunk, according to police in New York.

The New York Police Department said that they have arrested 18-year-old Dekota Locklear of Lumberton, North Carolina, after being accused of driving drunk with a 13-year-old boy in his car.

Locklear was charged with grand larceny, reckless endangerment and aggravated DUI following the incident. He was booked into jail, and his bail has been set at $50,000.

According to the criminal complaint, Locklear was arrested at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, at a DWI checkpoint in Washington Heights.

Police noticed that he had bloodshot eyes, and he failed a sobriety test. Police said they handcuffed Locklear, and put him in the back seat of a police cruiser.

They let the engine run because it was cold outside.

The teenager somehow maneuvered his handcuffed hands to the front of his body, got into the driver’s seat of the police cruiser, and sped away.

Locklear drove 12 miles to Yonkers, and then abandoned the car. Police found the police car using a GPS device. Police sent a team of 50 police officers to retrieve the vehicle.

Locklear was found nearby.
