Man beats his girlfriend before killing her pet donkey

(Scroll down for video) An angry man beat his girlfriend before turning his attention to her pet donkey, according to police in Indiana.

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office said that they have arrested 50-year-old Olvydas Abromavicius of Union Pier, Michigan, after being accused of killing an animal and beating his girlfriend while he was drunk.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 8600 north block of Wilhelm Road, regarding a possible domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, deputies found Abromavicius and his girlfriend arguing. Both were found to be intoxicated and the girlfriend claimed that she had been battered by her boyfriend.

While investigating the disturbance, Deputy Jonathon Samuelson noticed that there was a domestic donkey on the property that was in some type of distress.

Upon further investigation, he found that the animal was bleeding profusely from the head.

Once it was determined that the donkey, approximately five years old and named “Jack,” had been shot in the head near the left eye.

Deputies summoned Jane Bernard, director of the La Porte County Small Animal Shelter for assistance. She in turn summoned a veterinarian.

Before the medical help could arrive, the donkey died.

Abromavieius was charged with domestic battery as well as domestic violence animal cruelty for shooting the donkey.

Abromavieius was initially taken to the La Porte Hospital due to a high level of intoxication before being cleared to be booked into the La Porte County Jail.

His blood alcohol level was reported at the hospital to be .30%.

His bail has been set at $1,500.
