Calhoun County police said that they have arrested Matthew Williams, after being accused of stealing meth from the evidence room to feed his drug addiction.

Williams has been charged with one count of grand larceny. He was booked into jail, and his bail has been set at $50,000. If convicted, Williams faces up to 10 years in prison.

According to the criminal complaint, the sheriff stole meth and other items from the Spencer Police Department evidence room.

The items were valued at $1,000. Investigators found the meth in Williams’ desk and patrol car. Williams allegedly admitted to stealing the meth, and said that he has been using the drug for about a year.

Officials are now seeking to forcefully remove the sheriff from office after he refused to resign.
