Police horse dies after officer left it without food or water for 16 hours

(Scroll down for video) A police officer was punished after leaving his horse without food and water for many hours, according to police in Colorado.

The Denver Police Department said that Officer Joseph Teeter, lost one vacation day for leaving his horse without food and water.

After 16 hours, the horse became sick and it was euthanized.

Teeter lost one day of vacation because he failed to take care of his horse, MC Hammer. According to the police investigation, Teeter finished his shift and returned to the Denver Police Mounted Patrol Barn.

Teeter tied the horse with a rope and forgot about it. The horse was discovered 6:15 a.m., the next morning. The horse had no access to food or water for 16 hours.

Although the horse was given food and water, the animal began suffering of pain and was taken to the Littleton Equine Medical Center.

The horse became colic and had to be euthanized after vets determined that the condition would be irreversible.
