(Scroll down for video) A mother tortured her son by denying him food for several years, and caused him to weigh just a third of the average for a boy his age, according to police in Utah.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said that they have arrested 36-year-old Brandy Jaynes, after being accused of torturing her 12-year-old son for two years.

Jaynes has been charged with one count of aggravated child abuse. She was booked into jail, and her bail has been set at $20,000.

According to the criminal complaint, Jaynes kept the 12-year-old boy in bathroom for about two years. The room was dark and was equipped with videos cameras and baby monitors.

The boy got a very limited amount of food and water. When the boy was rescued, he weighed 30 pounds. The average weight for a 12-year-old boy is 90 pounds.

The boy’s father, who is married to Jaynes but does not live in the house, found him locked in the bathroom. He found his son lying on the floor with a blanket.

The father brought his son to the Dixie Regional Medical Center, where police responded on Sunday. A doctor told the police that this was the worst case of malnutrition he had ever seen.

The child will be hospitalized for at least three weeks, as he cannot stand up on his own. During questioning, Jaynes confirmed that she kept the boy in the bathroom because he wanted to sleep there.

The bathroom floor was covered with feces. The shower contained a few empty cans of beans and a spoon. Police found a video camera and a baby monitor in the bathroom.

The boy’s two siblings told investigators that they had not spoken to their brother for 6 months. One child told police that the boy has been locked in the bathroom for at least a year.

The boy’s two siblings are in the custody of child protected services. The two children do not appear to have been abused.
