Hospital patient steals items from roommate and visitor

A hospital patient was arrested for stealing from his roommate.

Police in Florida, were called to the North Florida Regional Medical Center, where items went missing from a visitor.

The victim told police that she left her purse in the Critical Care Unit waiting room while she was checking on a patient, according to the Gainesville police.

The woman said that the purse contained a cellphone and its charger, a pillowcase, and prescription drugs Oxycodone and Diazepam.

The items were valued at $475.

Police reviewed surveillance videos and found that a 42-year-old hospital patient, Jeffrey Diercks Nelson, stole the items.

The phone, charger and pillowcase were found in Nelson’s car outside the hospital. However, he denied taking pills.

Nelson then allegedly admitted to being behind the theft of his roommate’s belongings. He admitted to stealing items that were valued at $650 while his roommate was sedated.

Those items were found hidden behind the night stand in Nelson’s hospital room.
