(Scroll down for video) A son was arrested after his mother’s body was found dumped behind a wall on the street.

52-year-old Joan Viau vanished from her home in New York.

Her car was found a few days later, and it was covered with blood stains. Police also found her purse in a bedroom in her home, and it had blood on it.

Police said that Viau was last seen alive when she took her son, Joseph Garcia, 31, of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, to a doctor’s appointment in the Bronx.

During their investigation, police learned that Garcia had used his mother’s car and her credit card since she has gone missing.

Six days after her disappearance, a good Samaritan called police to report seeing a body that was lying face down behind a wall lining the Hudson River Greenway near 187th St. and Chittenden Ave. in Manhattan.

Police confirmed that it was the body of the missing mother. She died after her throat was slashed. Police believe that she was killed at a different location before being dumped over the wall.

Garcia, who has an extensive criminal history, was arrested on charges of criminal possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

He was not officially charged in the death of his mother. His bail was set at $100,000.
