(Scroll down for video) Police launched an investigation after a Walmart customer shot and killed a thief who stole items, including baby diapers, according to police in Florida.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said that the incident unfolded at the Walmart located on Clarcona Ocoee Road, on Saturday around 8:00 a.m.

Four people were trying to steal shopping carts full of baby supplies from the Walmart store. While the thieves were loading the items into a stolen car in the parking lot, a Walmart employee confronted them.

Among the stolen items were diapers. A confrontation between the store personnel and the thieves developed. A Walmart customer then tried to help the employees.

When the customer felt threatened by one of the individuals, he pulled out his gun and fire a shot. The individual acted on the basis of his belief that the 19-year-old thief was armed, police said.

The suspects then jumped into their red vehicle and tried to flee. They drove into two other vehicles in the parking lot and then left their car and ran away on foot.

The Walmart customer remained in the Walmart store for the arrival of the police. The shot suspect was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The vehicle in which the thieves arrived and tried to leave was stolen in a carjacking last month. So far, no arrests have been made.
