(Scroll down for video) A mother in the United Kingdom, freaked out after being notified that she fed her daughter methadone instead of antibiotics.

Nottingham police said that they have launched an investigation after 36-year-old Donna Buckley gave methadone to 9-year-old Ruby-Mai Bell.

Buckley revealed that she was prescribed antibiotics by her daughter’s doctor in order to treated an infection. Buckley gave Bell two spoonfuls of the drug she got from a nearby pharmacy, and her daughter went to bed.

Bell became very sleepy, and her eyes began to roll. That is when Buckley realized that something was seriously wrong.

However, she did not know about the severity of the issue until the pharmacist came banging on her door. The pharmacist told the mother that instead of antibiotics, the bottle contained methadone due to a mix up.

Buckley panicked because she thought that her daughter could die from the methadone. The girl’s father, Ralph Bell, took her to the Queen’s Medical Centre, where she was treated and released.

Manor pharmacy has apologized to the mother and daughter for the mix up. Methadone is a substitute for heroin used to treat recovering drug addicts.
