Everyone has days when they feel down for one reason or another.
Sometimes, it’s just a small set back that gets you down and you can move on easily.
However, other times, it is more severe and you feel so bad that it is hard to function properly.
On days like these, you remember all the negative and bad things that happened in your life like the times when your parents or teachers mistreated you and how life in general is unfair to you.
This just gets you in an even worse mood and you feel very bad about yourself. Many times, these thoughts cause you to turn to food for comfort.
However, after eating a lot of junk food, you feel worse about yourself.
Here are some tips on how to move past this negativity and how to pick yourself up when you feel down.
Don’t be hard on yourself. Know that you are not alone as millions of people around the world feel this way sometimes.
Take one moment at a time. Decide to do one little step that will make you feel better about yourself.
Get dressed. Put on nice clothes or wear perfume, even if you don’t feel like going out. This will likely improve your mood.
Listen to music. Listen to upbeat and “feel good” songs to lift your spirit.
Do some exercise. It does not have to be heavy exercise, the movement will improve your mood and make you feel better.
Go for a walk. It might be hard for you to pull yourself together to go out. However, it is well worth it as the results will be great.
In you need an incentive to go out, here is one. Walk to the supermarket that is far from your home, and buy yourself a treat as a reward for going out.
Think about happy things. Think about the good that you do have in your life.
You can also think about happy events like a recent vacation, a promotion at work or a kind thing someone did for you.
You can think about the people who you recently helped, and think about how happy they were with your gesture.
Remember the famous saying: “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.” Stay strong, enjoy today, and don’t worry about tomorrow.
Also, if you worry about tomorrow, you will lose today’s peace.
