Landlord fatally stabs immigrant tenant in front of 12-year-old son because he did not pay rent

(Scroll down for video) A landlord flew into a rage and stabbed his immigrant tenant numerous times because he did not pay rent, according to police in New York.

The New York Police Department said that they have arrested 51-year-old Taha Mahran of the Bronx, after being accused of killing 44-year-old Zakir Khan.

Mahran has been charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

According to the criminal complaint, Khan came from Bangladesh, and settled in New York, where he started his own real estate business.

Over the past several months, Khan fell on hard times and he was unable to pay rent. On Wednesday around 6:30 p.m., Mahran came to his tenant's apartment and pulled out a long knife.

He then stabbed Khan 20 times in front of the victim's 12-year-old son. Khan was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Khan left behind his wife and three children.
